Famco Chimney Cleaning & Sweep Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Famco Chimney Cleaning & Sweep in Atlanta: What to Know First

We provide independent Famco chimney cleaning and sweep services across Atlanta, typically scheduling within 3-5 business days during peak season and 1-2 weeks in the off-season. Every Famco job starts with an NFPA 211 Level 2 camera inspection, a written price before any work begins, and a documented photo record when we’re done. Most standard Famco sweeps run $225-$385 depending on creosote buildup and accessibility, and we don’t charge to look.

This page is for Atlanta homeowners who have a Famco chimney cap, damper, or venting component and need to know whether it can be swept safely, whether the parts holding up, and what it will actually cost. We are not affiliated with or authorized by Famco. We are an independent Famco service provider with no obligation to sell you new equipment.

How Famco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

We’ve cleaned and inspected Famco components in Atlanta homes since 2009. Here’s what the camera shows us regularly:

  • Famco chimney caps with galvanized mesh screens clog with Georgia pollen and creosote mix. The mesh on the WD series is finer than most competitors, which catches debris well but chokes airflow by mid-spring. We remove the cap, ultrasonic-clean the mesh where salvageable, and replace with stainless mesh if the galvanized layer has started flaking. A blocked cap forces smoke backward into the smoke chamber.
  • Famco top-sealing dampers (TSD line) lose their silicone seal after 8-12 years of Atlanta’s UV and freeze-thaw. The gasket hardens, the damper doesn’t seat fully, and you lose conditioned air up the flue year-round. During sweep, we test seal integrity with a smoke pencil. If the gasket is shot, we quote replacement gaskets or a full damper swap. The camera doesn’t negotiate - it just shows you what’s there.
  • Famco stainless flue liners (SL series) develop offset joints in clay-throat chimneys common in Grant Park and East Atlanta. The liner was pushed through a too-tight space; thermal expansion works the joint loose. Our camera catches the gap before it spits sparks into the wall cavity. We re-seat with proper expansion hardware or recommend a partial reline if the offset exceeds NFPA 211 tolerance.
  • Famco wall thimbles in direct-vent setups collect condensate in Atlanta’s humid shoulder seasons. The thimble interior rusts, staining the wall and compromising the seal. We pull the thimble, document the rust grade, and replace with a stainless thimble from our Haven buying network. HeatShield refractory is our go-to for sealing the surrounding masonry.
  • Famco chimney pots (decorative terracotta and cast-concrete lines) crack from ice wedging during Atlanta’s occasional hard freezes. The pot sheds pieces into the flue, where they jam dampers or damage liners. We scope above the damper during every sweep, remove debris, and quote pot replacement only if structural integrity is gone. Often the pot just needs repointing and a rain cap.

Why Atlanta Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Atlanta for Famco Work

We’ve been running inspections and cleanings across Atlanta for years now, including a stretch of older Craftsman homes in Inman Park where the original clay-tile liners kept our cameras busy every fall. Corrine Halstead and our crew know the difference between a Famco TSD damper that needs a gasket and one that’s warped beyond saving - and we say which it is before you spend a dollar.

Every job is backed by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. Our techs are background-checked, uniformed, and named on your appointment text. Materials come through our Haven buying network, which keeps prices honest. And we answer the phone live, 24/7, because chimney questions don’t keep office hours.
